If the file and printer sharing service is not listed:
-
Click on the File and Printer Sharing button.
-
If the two choices are not both selected, click on each in turn to enable
them. (This does not automatically give everyone on your network access
to your printers and files, it only makes it so you can give that access
as you wish without having to come back to Control Panel Network first.)
-
Click on OK.
-
If Client for Microsoft Networks is not listed:
-
Click on Add, then Client, then Add again.
-
Select Microsoft, then Client for Microsoft Networks.

If the Primary Network Logon is Client for Microsoft Networks:
-
If you want a password box to come up every time you start your computer,
do nothing.

box. You will not see it again after that.

If you have already entered a password, and now have to remove it:
-
Go to Control Panel and double-click on Passwords.
-
Click on the Change Windows password button.
-
In the top field enter your existing password.
-
Leave the other two fields blank and click the OK button.
-

-
The computer name should be unique on your network.
-
The workgroup name should be the same on all computers on your network.
-
Click on OK and allow Windows to restart the computer for it to
take effect.
-
When Windows restarts you will have to enter a username if no name is filled
in.
-
You do not need a password, just leave that part blank if you wish.
-
Click on OK.
-
If you have entered a new username, you will see another window asking
you to reenter your password. If you chose to have no password, just click
on the OK button again. If you chose to use a password, reenter it and
then click on OK.
-
Note that clicking on the Cancel button will cause you to not be
on the peer-to-peer network.
Confirm it worked by opening Network Neighborhood/My Network Places: you
should see other computers on the network. (Note: it may take two or three
minutes for your and other computers to show up in this list the first
time.)
